These Texas roads are high-risk for car accidents

On Behalf of | Sep 13, 2023 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Whether you live in Texas year ’round or travel here on occasion, statistics and traffic analyses show that certain roads throughout the state are more dangerous than others. No matter where you go, if you drive or are a passenger in someone’s car, you’re at risk of collision. However, if you happen to navigate the roads mentioned in this blog post, your risk greatly increases.

One stretch of highway that extends from Dallas to Galveston is Interstate 45. It is one of the deadliest roads in Texas. Houston, a city along the path, has had more auto-related fatalities than any other city along the interstate. Another dangerous road that passes through Dallas is Interstate 30. Highway 75, which goes all the way to Jacksonville, Florida from Dallas, Texas, is also one of the most dangerous roads, not just in this state, but in the whole country, as well.

More deadly roads in Texas

Stemmons Freeway, Tomball Parkway, Texas 12 Loop and Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway are ranked at the top of the list for the most dangerous roads in the Lone Star State. Dallas is an area where you’ll want to be especially alert and cautious behind the wheel because three of the 10 most dangerous roads that stretch five miles or more are in that city.

The number one factor in fatal collisions in these areas is driver intoxication. The second leading cause of death in car accidents on the deadliest Texas roadways is driver distraction.

Additional factors constituting motorist negligence in Texas car accidents

The following list shows numerous other issues (besides distracted driving or drunk driving) that often cause car accidents in Texas:

  • Driving at speeds over the posted limit
  • Road rage
  • Falling asleep or nodding off at the wheel
  • Failure to yield
  • Recklessness
  • Disregard of traffic laws

If you happen to be sharing the road with an experienced driver, your chances of collision increase. Traveling on these Texas highways doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be involved in a car accident; however, the chances of someone hitting you on these roads are greater than they might be in other areas of the state.

Someone hits you on a Texas road — now what?

Always seek medical attention following a Texas car accident, even if you think you feel well enough to go home. It’s important to document the incident, which will happen if you go to the hospital. Beyond that, you can seek financial recovery for your losses if you have evidence to convince the court that another driver was at fault and that his or her negligence caused your injuries.
